How to use it

  1. Type any whole number in the box.
  2. Its properties appear straight away: prime or composite, factors, divisors, sequences and bases.
  3. Change the number to look up another, or share the page with the number already filled in.

What the properties mean

A number's properties are the plain facts about it. Is it prime, meaning it has no factors except 1 and itself, or composite, meaning it breaks down into smaller pieces. Which sequences it sits in, like the triangular or square numbers. How it looks when written in binary or hexadecimal instead of the usual base ten. Each one is exact and repeatable, so the same number always gives the same answer.

People reach for this most often alongside gematria. Once a word has a value on the gematria calculator, the next question is usually what that number is. Looking it up here shows whether it is prime, what it reduces to, and which forms it takes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a number is prime?

Type the number in and the calculator tells you straight away. If it is prime it also shows which prime it is, so 1381 is the 221st prime. If it is not, you get its factors instead.

What are the factors of a number?

The factors, or divisors, are the whole numbers that divide it with nothing left over. The calculator lists them all and gives the prime factorisation, which is the number written as a product of primes, like 666 = 2 × 3² × 37.

What is a triangular, square or pentagonal number?

These are figurate numbers, ones that count dots arranged in a shape. The triangular numbers are 1, 3, 6, 10 and so on; the square numbers are 1, 4, 9, 16. If your number is one of them, the calculator says which position it holds, for example the 36th triangular number.

How do you convert a number to binary or hexadecimal?

You rewrite it in another base. Binary uses only 0 and 1, hexadecimal uses 0 to 9 and A to F. The calculator shows binary, octal, duodecimal and hexadecimal for any number you enter, so there is nothing to work out by hand.

What does the reduced value mean?

It adds up the digits of the number until a single digit is left, which numerology calls the root number. So 1381 becomes 1 + 3 + 8 + 1 = 13, then 1 + 3 = 4. The values 11, 22 and 33 are kept as they are and called master numbers.

How does this relate to gematria?

A gematria value is just a number, and many people read meaning into its properties: whether it is prime, what it reduces to, or which famous numbers it matches. Work out a word's value on the gematria calculator, then look the number up here to see what it is made of.
